Aquila Oud Strings - Red Series

Aquila Red Series strings are excellent oud strings from Italy.

Until the middle of the 20th century, ouds were set up with gut strings, a material that has been used for thousands of years and which combines excellent attack with brilliance and sonic purity - very different, in other words, from modern nylon strings. Aquila's objective was to manufacture a new synthetic product having the same acoustic properties as gut, but without its typical defects (high cost, limited duration and high instability under climatic variables). The Super Nylgut® brings together precisely these qualities: allowing on the one hand, to find the typical sounds of the 19th and 20th century; and guaranteeing, on the other hand, a tuning stability even higher than that of the best guts and nylon strings.

Our opinion: Aquila strings have a particularly dull sound. The treble strings are made with a high performance bioplastic and give it a unique sound grain and the bass strings offer a very strong sound depth and roundness. The sound volume is relatively limited, but this is not the goal of these strings. These strings are particularly fine and very pleasant to the touch. Voltage is normal, break-in time is about 10 days.
