Black Walnut is a North American tonewood distinct from traditional European walnut. Slightly denser and darker, it is highly regarded in luthiery for its deep tonal character, rich harmonic content and its ability to produce a full, warm and well-balanced sound, with strong low-end presence and full midrange response.

The Black Walnut bowl gives the instrument a deeper and more enveloping tone than maple, while maintaining excellent clarity. This wood is known for producing a round, rich and warm timbre, particularly appreciated in traditional Arabic music.

The spruce soundboard provides clarity, dynamics and responsiveness. It perfectly balances the natural warmth of Black Walnut by offering a precise attack and good projection, both for solo playing and accompaniment.
